Walk-in appointment for spouses and children
All applications are processed via our external service provider VFS Global, including for family members of Belgian or EU nationals. It is not possible to submit an application at the Embassy.
However, spouses and children of a Belgian or EU national are entitled to submit their visa application without booking an appointment. They may walk-in at the VFS application center at the condition they present a copy of the marriage or birth certificate, together with a passport copy of the Belgian or EU national.
Please note: while no appointment is required, they will still need to:
- fill in the application form online via Visa On Web before visiting VFS;
- prepare the required documents according to the travel purpose;
- queue at the counter to submit their application.
EU Directive 2004/38/EC
A non-EU family member of an EU citizen who has exercised his right to free movement by living in another EU country for a period of more than three months, is covered by Directive 2004/38/EC, and can submit documents according to this type of visa.
If the Belgian citizen has always lived in Belgium and never exercised free movement rights by living in another EU country for at least three months, their non-EU spouse is not covered by Directive 2004/38/EC. The spouse of a Belgian national who did not exercise their right to free movement should apply for a normal tourist visa.
