A professional card (beroepskaart / carte professionnelle) is an official authorization that allows non-EU/EEA foreign nationals to legally work as freelancers, entrepreneurs, or self-employed individuals in Belgium.
Documents needed
- Decide in which region your activity will be established:
Flanders, Brussels, or Walloon Region (or the German-speaking Community). - Prepare your application with all supporting documents required by the competent regional authority.
Submission at the Embassy
Once your file is complete, you have to submit it at the Embassy by booking an appointment for “Professional Card” via our online system e-Appointment. Slots are available on Wednesday mornings.
- The Embassy does not assess the file. It is forwarded as submitted to the relevant authority via diplomatic pouch.
- Some regions (Brussels and Wallonia) may request an interview. This will take place at the Embassy.
After approval
If your application is approved, you will receive an official decision letter. With this letter, you may apply for a long-stay visa (D) at VFS Global.
Fees
The fee for submitting a professional card application at the Embassy is €140, payable by bank card.
