You have two options to submit a request for a certificate:
- With your Belgian identity card and a card reader: on the website My file. This option is free of charge and allows you to obtain a certificate in one of our national languages (FR/NL and DE). This option does not provide the possibility to obtain a certificate in English.
- Request by email: You can also request a certificate via email to the embassy by using this form (Dutch) (PDF, 138.51 KB) and this form (French) (PDF, 138.27 KB). In this case, administrative fees will apply at consular rate. The requested certificate will be sent via email after the reception of the proof of payment and of the form. The original document will be available for a period of six months (the validity period of the certificate) at the embassy and can be sent to you via courier at your own cost.
Related to the request via e-mail:
The embassy does not accept appointments for the request of consular certificates or certificates of life.
If you require a certificate in English, it will always be issued on the basis of a certificate in one of the national languages. You will be charged for both certificates.

Certificate of life
For the certificate of life, no certificate is drawn up, but the embassy confirms the personal details and that the person is still alive on the pre-printed form of the Belgian pension institution. Please send us an email with:
- Your Belgian form;
- A photo of yourself with a recent newspaper. The certificate of life is then dated to the date of the newspaper.
