Can I book an appointment by phone?

NO – this can only be done online via e-Appointment.

Can I keep my old passport?

YES – upon picking up your new passport we will cancel your old passport, cut off a corner and can return it to you.

The appointment I booked is no longer suitable. What should I do?

Please cancel your old appointment using the cancellation link found in your booking confirmation email. You can then make a new appointment online. The system will propose the earliest available appointment. It is possible that this date will be sooner than your original appointment. This is due to appointments that have been cancelled by others.

I travel a lot. Can I have a passport with more pages?

YES — you can choose to apply for a new passport with 64 pages by selecting it on the application form. Be aware that these passports cost significantly more. Check our consular fees for more information.

Can I send another person to pick up my passport?

There are two ways to pick up your passport

  1. By appointment via our online system, you or another person can come, provided this person brings identification and a power of attorney from you.
  2. By an official courier service to pick it up on your behalf, provided you send us an email with the courier's order number. The embassy receives couriers only on weekdays between 08:30 and 12:00.

The old passport always needs to be brought for cancellation.

My valid passport has been lost/stolen. I requested that my biometric information be kept. What do I have to do now?

Please alert DocStop to block your passport. If you requested that your biometric information be kept, please send us an email to enquire about getting a duplicate passport: abudhabi@diplobel.fed.be. If you did not, you will need to apply for a new passport.

Can the validity of my passport be extended?

NO – if a passport is no longer valid or will expire soon, you will have to apply for a new passport.

Does my passport need to be valid for 6 months to travel?

Generally, countries request a passport to be valid for 6 months.

To enter the UAE it requires a passport validity of minimum 6 months for tourists, and a minimum of 3 months for UAE-resident holders. Policies can differ for resident holders, and you need to verify with the local authorities.

You can always travel back to Belgium from the UAE, even if your passport has limited validity.

In case of travelling elsewhere, you must check with the embassy of your destination country whether there are specific entry requirements related to the validity of the passport.

I regularly need to apply for visas which requires me to leave my passport with another Embassy. What can I do in order to continue to travel?

You can apply for a second passport. We only issue second passports to Belgians that are required to travel frequently to countries:

  1. that use physical visa stickers (not in case of visa on arrival or e-visa);
  2. where the visa application procedure requires them to leave the passport at the respective Embassy for a certain time;
  3. to be proven by communication received from that Embassy or information mentioned on their website.

You will need to submit:

  • a full copy of your passport;
  • a supporting letter from your employer that explains your situation, mentioning the countries (to be) visited;
  • proof of the fact that the embassies of these countries only offer physical visa where you are required to leave your passport with them during the visa process for a certain time.
