Legalization of documents

The legalization of documents is carried out in two or three steps in Belgium:

• Legalization by the competent Belgian authority (in certain cases): Legalization by the competent Belgian authority;
• Legalization by Public Federal Service of Foreign Affairs in Belgium: The procedure to follow;
• Legalization by the embassy of the UAE in Brussels: The procedure to follow.
   

Any citizen with an eID can also access the public eLegalisation site to inquire an electronic legalization request for various documents. Otherwise, the competent Belgian authority can submit your required document in eLegalisation to obtain an electronic legalization. The Embassy of the UAE in Brussels accepts documents legalized via eLegalisation.

• Legalization by the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs
• Legalization by the embassy of the UAE in Brussels

If the local authorities require diploma equivalency certificates, only the relevant Community is authorized to issue them. This document must then be legalized in Belgium following the diploma legalization procedure before it can be used in the UAE.
